I was reading in the book of Esther this morning. Most of the time we focus on the bravery of Esther in saving her people. What struck me as I read was Mordecai. He had saved the King from assassination. When that event happened, Mordecai was not recognized. I am unsure of how much time passed before the King was ordering the record book to be read to him because he could not sleep, but when it finally happened, the King realized that he had not properly thanked Mordecai for saving his life. The story then weaves back to when Esther was having the King and Haman for the second banquet, Haman had built the gallows to hang Mordecai and then Mordecai finally gets recognized for what he had previously done, with the kicker being that Haman was the one who came up with the reward. I do not know about you but if I had done something that important I would want recognition right away. The Bible does not delve into detail about how Mordecai felt or if that even bothered him. My take away is, when I am doing the right thing, it may never get recognized. All that being said, God will take care of me. Whether it be in the timing that I think it should or sometime off in the future. If we are doing what God calls us to do, we need to keep pressing on, not worrying about recognition because we should not be doing things for that reason, but to serve.
