A friend of mine went to Heaven, late Wednesday night. The funny thing is that she was one of the people I sent a word of encouragement to the same day she died. I am grateful that she knew that I was thinking about her and praying for her, as she had been sick for a while. I remember a phone conversation we had a few weeks ago. It was a Sunday. She called to ask me the name of the song we had sung in church that morning, because she wanted that song to be sung at her funeral. I was a bit taken aback. I think my response was something like, “Your funeral?” She seemed to have this sense that she did not have a long time to live, even though she was not that old. Well, she did qualify for the seniors discount, but that number is looking younger and younger these days! We talked for a bit and I had seen her in person since that phone call. When I think about her life, I will most remember her as being faithful. She started coming to church a very long time ago. At first she brought her children and the children with special needs that she cared for. It took more than a decade of faithfulness for her husband to start attending with her. She always had prayer requests for people she was witnessing to. She was never shy about her faith and was the church to so many people. I guess my take away is usually the same whenever someone passes. Cherish those you love. Tell them you love them. Above all, be the hands and feet of Jesus.
